Day 9

Today started with some Doodle Maths on the ipads. Some of the children then went onto spelling games and became a whizz at spelling some common exception words! After we had all settled in we got our hearts pumping with some go noodle and we thoroughly enjoyed making patterns in Banana, Banana Meatball. Everyone took part, even the adults!

We then sat down and thought about some quotes that we could paint and display in our windows. We came up with:
  • Stay safe
  • Smile J
  • Be happy
  • Be kind
  • Wash your hands
  • Everything will be alright
  • Stay home
  • We’ve got this
  • Be positive.

We then had a snack and relaxed before going outside to play with the footballs and hula hoops. We then went into the allotment and went off to do different things. Some of us continued building the incredible twig den, some of us tidied and some of us went round the plants with a watering can, making sure they had enough water to grow.

After lots of time outside we came back in to eat lunch together and watched the Snail and the Whale and the Gruffalo. Whilst we waited for everyone to finish their lunch, some of us learnt how to make paper aeroplanes and raced against each other. Once we’d eaten our lunches and gained some energy we went back outside to the allotment to create some bug traps. Mrs Preedy told us all about them and helped us to dig out a space in the ground for the trap. When we were digging we came across a millipede! We then filled it with some mulch to attract the bugs and even found the perfect bit of stone to cover the trap to ensure that any bugs or animals have shelter should it rain!

Towards the end of the day we played tennis with each other and made some wonderful art creations with chalk and tape.

We wonder what adventures tomorrow will bring!

Day 8

We started the morning off with a little bit of colouring while waiting for all our friends to arrive. Then we decided to get active! For a change, we did a cosmic yoga disco. It was definitely different!

We then had a quick snack, and went outside. Mrs Newnham brought some branches so we all helped her unload the car, and then started building our dens! We spent the rest of the morning in the allotment having a wonderful time. We planted carrots and peas, found lots of weeds to pull and tidied up the flower beds.
In the afternoon we spent some time playing on the field. We created some lovely assault courses, which we all had great fun using. The we came back inside to decorate Easter eggs! We used pegs and pom-poms to create splodges and patterns over our eggs.

Day 7

Today has been full of different activities. Just like yesterday, we started with some colouring before reading our books to our teachers.

Joe Wicks came next, with the children lasting far longer than the adults!  We enjoyed lots of time outside today and spent time looking at the effect of sunlight, using farm animals to create pictures with their shadows. This then turned into some free play where we used chalk to draw shadow puppets on the wall, as well as playing some ball games.

After lunch, we made our way up to the field to engage with Opal Play. The children enjoyed finding more and more creative places to hide a ball while others looked for it. Afterwards, we all enjoyed playing Hide and Seek, while some children attempted (and succeeded) scoring a goal past Mr Clement.

When we came back inside, we had a challenge! Each child constructed their own tower using spaghetti and marshmallows. The challenge was to build the highest tower possible. The competition was very fierce and the architecture was strong.

We finished the day by going outside again and creating our own game with hoops and balls.

Looking forward to another fun-filled day at Calton tomorrow!

Day 6

Today has been action-packed right from the start. We warmed up with a bit of calm colouring to contrast with some amazing dance moves led from the front by Miss Thomas. After we’d all settled in, it was time to get active with Joe Wicks. Everyone took part and the staff were definitely feeling the burn! After some play time outside, Doodle Maths on iPads and snack and story, we went out on to the field for Opal Play. There was lots of construction, climbing and cooperative play to be seen and a few people finding places to hide!

When we returned to the hall it was lunchtime. We had a story and some music on in the background while we ate together. After lunch we had some quiet time with laptops, iPads and Lego construction. Then we got active again for the afternoon outside. More football, catching and throwing and some learning how to juggle. Later, we had the chance to try indoor curling, badminton and bowling. To end the day, we got some more fresh air and then inspired by the artwork outside, we used chalks to create a heart on the brickwork outside the Onyx building.
Another action-packed day tomorrow!

Day 5

We started the day with colouring and a few went outside to play football soon after. We then followed that up inside with some Go Noodle.

Ipads followed that with most on their Doodle Maths and a few using the Beebot app or Maths Bingo.

Snack and play outside with chalks and footballs followed – this became an extended outdoor time playing games.

We came back in and the children continued their pictures while we started to get ready for lunch time.

Following lunch we spent some time up on the field and then returned to do some Lego printing pictures with paint.

This was followed by playing with Lego and we watched ‘Sing’ with the children who were still with us.
