Half Term

Day 5

We started the day outside having some fun on the scooters while we waited for everyone to arrive. We then spent some time in the allotment watering the flowers and plants we planted throughout the last term.

We came in from outside and had our snack then Mrs Day-Webb had an activity which involved making pictures from a set of shapes we cut out from paper. Some of us found this tricky but we all had fun trying to work out which shapes needed to go where.

After this we went outside into Forest School for a short while before lunch.

As it was a hot day we ate our lunch under a tree in the shade then had some playtime before it got too warm, then we came inside to watch a film as we cooled down.

Day 4

We started our morning by using salt dough to create some sculptures. Some of us started yesterday so we got the chance to paint them using some lovely bright colours. Once we finished this, we went onto some drawing and painting.

As the sun was shining we went outside on the playground to soak up some sun and relax with a snack. We then went out to the forest school area to collect some sticks and leaves of all different sizes ready for our next task.

We made some really cool people with our sticks and leaves and some of us enjoyed just making arty creations.

We then had our lunch outside in the shade and then had a little play with some of the tennis rackets and scooters.

In the afternoon, it was too hot to stay outside, so we continued our stick and leaf creations and then went back into the classrooms. Some of us played hangman and different games on the whiteboard with Mrs Price and some of us watching some videos and chilled out for the afternoon.

Day 3

The lovely weather seems to be making a regular appearance at the moment and we feel so fortunate. We began our morning spending some in the playground, quickly deciding to make use of the field before it became too warm. It was lovely to be able to use our imaginations and some of us decided to create a stage to perform.

Before lunch, we decided to use salt dough to create our own models which we thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to painting as soon as possible.

After lunch, we decided to re-create some of the fun we had last Wednesday and set up Britain’s Got Talent in the classroom (it was becoming very hot outdoors!). We had four people on our judging panel: Simon, Alesha, Amanda and David. Our contestants were amazing and it was wonderful seeing their confidence shine through! It also became evident that ‘Dance Monkey’ is a firm favourite with the Wednesday children.

We spent a tiny bit more time outdoors but, as the sun was beaming, we decided to come and sit inside and watch Happy Feet. We had a lovely day!

Day 2

We have had a very active day being creative and spending time outside! We started the day by having a run around outside; playing ball, riding on the scooters and playing tennis. Then we came back inside and were introduced to our Art task! We looked at some pictures of Picasso’s abstract art and some cardboard masks made in his style so that we could design our own! We started by drawing a plan on a piece of paper and then sticking different facial features onto a cardboard face shape.

By this point we were ready for our snack and break. We sat outside in the beautiful weather to eat and then had some more time playing on the playground. We came back in and began painting our abstract masks. We made sure we used really bright colours and some of us even flicked the paint at our masks using a paintbrush. Have a look at some of the photos of our finished masks below!

After we finished painting it was lunchtime! We enjoyed our lunch on the playground before having some more play time where some of us did colourings and some of us tried naming characters from famous books.

After lunch we spent some time on the field playing with the OPAL resources. We came back in and watched a little bit of Monsters Inc before having a few games of volleyball!

Half Term
Day 1

It was Bank Holiday Monday, so we did not have any eschool's work to do, today! This was great because the sun was shining and we did not want to do any work! We started off my making some paper aeroplanes whilst we waited for everyone to come in. We tried to see how far they would go, which was quite far. We, then, started to colour them in so that we knew who they belonged to!

We decided that it might be too hot to play outside later so we went up on to the field to play with the Opal equipment. When Mr Coughlin came to sort out the field so that it will be even more fun, we went to play on the playground with the scooters and balls. It then got a bit too warm so we went inside and watched Newsround and some of the Deadly 60 programmes. We then had our snack and did some PE with Joe Wickes.

We decided to get some paint out and did some art. We could choose what we wanted to paint and we also learned what colours we could use to make other colours.

After eating our lunch outside, we played for a little while and then went back indoors as it was very warm. We watched Alvin and the Chipmonks: Chipwrecked and drew some pictures. Then made an obstacle course and played on that for a while before going out into the forest area to play for a while. Mrs B taught some of us how to make bird sounds using grass, although it didn't always sound like birds!  It was soon time for most of us to go home but those left played with hoops inside and helped with some jobs that needed to be done.

Day 25

We started the day outside doing some exercise while everyone arrived.

When we came in we split into two classrooms which is where we worked throughout the day and had our lunch later on. First up was Maths. Most of us had some word problem challenges to do from the White rose/ BBC Bite Size. We had to work out how much money people had, how long it took someone to climb out of a well, missing numbers amongst other things. As we finished our challenges we spent some time reading to the adults who were supporting us.

Snack time! A lot of us were hungry today so were keen to get our snacks but always remembering to wash our hands first. We then went outside on the trikes and scooters for break time. It was very windy but it wasn’t cold and we had great fun seeing how far the scooters would run without pushing with our feet.

Following that was English. Year 1 were writing the ending to a story they have been writing all week about Grandpa Pirate. They were all really pleased with their work today. Year 2 made posters persuading people to conserve water, we wondered whether people at home do try not to waste water. Year 3 were doing factual writing about volcanoes, Year 4 were completing some comprehension from a non-fiction piece of writing about Wimbledon, Year 5 were writing a newspaper report about the start of World War1 and Year 6 were carrying on with their diary entries.

We were all pleased when lunchtime came around. We ate, then spent some time outside before completing a Quest activity. KS1 were learning their numbers and colours in French while KS2 finished listening to a story, which they had started just before lunch, and then we sang a mixture of songs from all our year groups.

We finished the day playing on the field with the OPAL equipment and then tidying it all up! Just take a look at the picture.

Day 24

This morning the children put their belongings into the classrooms before heading outside to explore the scooters. We headed inside to begin our Maths work learning a mixture of 3D shapes, subtraction and fractions. Afterwards we all enjoyed our snack in the sunshine and playing tennis. We ventured inside to complete our English work which varied from sentences starters, story writing, surveys, newspaper articles and work on commas.

It was then time for lunch. We went outside to eat and enjoy the sunshine. After lunch, we came inside and had some reading before some Go Noodle dances.

As it was such a nice day, we then went back outside and went into the forest school area and completed some rubbings. We placed our paper on a part of the forest school and rubbed the chalk on our page to see what pattern would be left. Finally we went onto the field and some of us played with the OPAL equipment while others played French cricket.

Day 23

We were very lucky with the weather today and spent the first hour of the morning in the playground! At 9:30am, we started our learning and separated into our designated groups. We worked hard on our Maths and English up until lunchtime (with a short break in between of course!)

After lunch, we spent some time outdoors and set up our own game of Britain’s Got Talent (or ‘Calton’s Got Talent’ as we renamed it!) We all got to showcase our talents and enjoyed using the ‘golden buzzer’ when we were amazed by a particular performance. Luckily, somebody found a music machine which was part of OPAL play so we were even able to have some music!

As the afternoon grew warmer, we decided to come indoors and spend the last hour of the day watching a film. It was nice to relax and cool down – particularly after performing in our show all afternoon!

Tuesday 19th May 2020

Day 22

We have had a very action-packed day today creating some very exciting things!

We began the day as usual with some calm colouring, before completing our maths work and eating our snacks outside before having our break.

We then spent time in our year groups for English where some excellent work was produced! Everyone worked really hard and this was shown in the work.

After the work and lunch were completed, we began recording our version of ‘The Lockdown Song’. Everyone sang beautifully and performed beautifully. We cannot wait to see how the video comes out!

Finally we made our way up to the field to spend some time in OPAL play in the sunshine. We even recreated some film scenes!

It has been a wonderful day and we are all looking forward to what tomorrow brings.

Monday 18th May 2020

Day 21

Today, we started off with some quiet reading whilst we waited for everyone to arrive. We, then split into our year groups and worked through the Maths we had been set by our teachers. After working so hard, the adults decided that it would be a good idea for us to move around a bit so we took part in the daily Joe Wickes PE session. It was really hard and there were some moves that we found tricky.

After washing our hands and eating our snack, we went outside to play. We stayed out for a while as it was lovely weather. When we went back in we had to complete the English work that we had been set by our year groups. It was great though because there were only two of us to an adult. Towards the end of this session we decided that we would have lunch outside. Some mats were taken out for us to sit on in the playground.

After playing outside for a while, we came in and tidied up all the work we had done in the morning. We then listened to two stories that Mrs Thomas read to us. They were 'The Tiger Who came to Tea' and 'Lions and Unicorns'.

As it was such a nice day outside we went out on the field to play with the Opal play equipment. We really enjoyed using our imaginations to play games togetyher. Finally, we came in from the field we sat down to watch 'Playmobil, The Movie' until our parents picked us up.

Friday 15th May 2020

Day 20

The morning began with some colouring and reading while we waited for everyone to arrive.

We then did some maths. Some of us did STOPs problem solving and others practised their Doodle Maths on Ipads. It was fun trying to reach green!

We had a break and went outside for a while. We played on the scooters and some of us played ball.

When we came back in, we all did some English work. Some people were writing up haikus, some were getting ideas for story writing and others were answering questions about comprehension texts. Year 5 were making story maps for non-fiction texts.

Next it was lunch and we had some more fun time outside.

After lunch, we watched a video on how to draw and colour to give a 3D effect. Some of our drawings looked really good!

After we had tidied all the pencils and paper away, we went  outside again. We collected up all the yellow trikes and put them all away down near the Reception classes. Then we collected watering cans and made sure all the young plants growing in the allotment had a good drink! We were amazed  at how much is growing now. We spotted peas, rhubarb, blackcurrants, carrots, strawberries and herbs – rosemary, thyme, sage and mint.

We stayed for a while in the allotment as it was warm and sunny and a lovely place to lie in the grass and daydream for a few minutes, although some of us had fun doing army manoeuvres!

We played outside in the sunshine playing tennis and on scooters, before heading off home.
